 1) Research: Magazine covers and features


You need to research magazine front covers and double-page spread features.

Tatler magazine covers

Find three different Tatler magazine covers :


Front cover conventions: What conventions or typical features can you find on the covers you have researched? 
- Famous strong women with bold makeup to appeal and be the centre of the attention
- Luxury jewelleries 
- Wearing luxury clothing brands

Image analysis: What do you notice about the central images on the magazine covers? What do you notice about the mise-en-scene (CLAMPS) - particularly costume, make-up and setting? 

- Wearing bright colours to stand out
- Bold makeup to appear strong and leave an impression on the audience
- Abnormal backgrounds with lots of bright colours 

Representations: What representations of people and groups can you find on these covers?

- Not enough representation as most of the models are white 


Double-page spread features

Find three different double page spread magazine features :




Double page spread feature conventions: What conventions or typical features can you find on the double page spread features you have researched?  

- Different font sizes
- lots of images

Image analysis: What do you notice about the use of images? How are they laid out on the page? How does the mise-en-scene (CLAMPS) create meanings for the audience? 

- Bold high quality images that are the centre of attention to stand out
- Uses of bright colours to highlight something about the celebrity
- Different font sizes for different parts

Representations: What representations can you find in these features?  

- Representation in gender - Both women and men
- Representation in race - Black and white celebrities 

2) Magazine planning

3) Statement of Intent

On the same Summer Project blogpost, write the rough first draft of your genuine 300-word Statement of Intent for the magazine and double-page spread feature you plan to create. The final draft of this document will be submitted to the exam board alongside your production work and is worth 10 marks of the overall 60 marks available.

Guidance is provided by AQA in their NEA Student Booklet but we strongly recommend you also look at our Statement of Intent suggested content document too.


Summer project deadline: all tasks above due in the second lesson back in September.

Video games

1) What were the first video games like? The first video games released had bad graphic quality as technology back then wasn't as advanced.Most games target audience were aimed at men as the producers of most video games were men.Most games contained violence as that what attracted male audience the most. 2) How have video games changed over time? Video games graphic quality changed over time from a blurry low quality to a quality that almost looks like you're watching a movie.Also over time more video games targeted at women started to appear.Such as Lara Croat she was one of the first female lead characters.However she was sexualised  so much that the main target audience was men.  3) What do the most successful games have in common? statement of intent - updated version

My new upmarket lifestyle consumer magazine will be called 'CLIO'. Cover image features a  Nepali  model that just hit her fame and is known worldwide for her work. The magazine is collaborating with her and letting her design her own collection to launch soon. The main story is about a recent interview with the Nepali star to talk about her life as an A lister Nepali celebrity. She talks about shows she attends as a model such as Paris fashion show and a ball held by the Queen only for the upper class to attend. She also talks about the struggle of an Asian Nepali women in the upper class industry. Cover lines: Features talks about Nepali model Aastha  as well as other news that the audience can expect to read about.
