statement of intent - updated version
My new upmarket lifestyle consumer magazine will be called 'CLIO'.
Cover image features a Nepali model that just hit her fame and is known worldwide for her work. The magazine is collaborating with her and letting her design her own collection to launch soon.
The main story is about a recent interview with the Nepali star to talk about her life as an A lister Nepali celebrity. She talks about shows she attends as a model such as Paris fashion show and a ball held by the Queen only for the upper class to attend. She also talks about the struggle of an Asian Nepali women in the upper class industry. Cover lines: Features talks about Nepali model Aastha as well as other news that the audience can expect to read about. For example my first cover line talks about the Paris fashion and the clothes featured being high quality and are clothes only the upper class will be able to afford.
Colour scheme: The main colour of the magazine cover is an appealing shade of purple as it gives off a luxurious and romantic vibe and creates a nostalgia feeling for the audience as one of Nepali model Aastha's iconic run walk was in a purple dress.
Font/typography: Fancy font for the title as it's eye catching. Just from looking at the fancy cover one can tell it's an expensive magazine aimed at the upper class at the high price of £6.99.
Font : Serif shows authority and traditional values.
Make-up : Nepali model featured wearing bold makeup to show her power and control and present her elegance and feminine side. The purple make up and background creates a powerful and royalty aura around the model. This makes the model the centre of attention and appeal to the audience.
Expression : Serious expression which shows she's focused and determined. This allows the upper class audience to take her seriously.
Challenge stereotypes & Representation : My magazine reinforces stereotypes by featuring a female Nepali model that is presented as powerful and in control who has gained a place of importance in high society. This will create representation for Nepali people and create more opportunities for Asian women by featuring a women instead of a man. This is against the norms of high society as white men dominate the upper society and this challenges those stereotypes. This will have an impact as women often are seen just as the wife of a noble.
Reinforce : My magazine will reinforce stereotypes by assuming all women will be interested in make up and fashion events.
My demographic target audience is upper class aged between 25 - 35 mainly targeted towards women as the content mostly features fashion, makeup and jewellery. My target audience also enjoys horse riding and collecting antiques.
My magazine will follow Blumler and Katz uses and gratifications theory by representing my audience's daily life on a magazine with things they like and enjoy. This will make them engage with the magazine as it fits all their entertainment needs.
